In 2003, the IU Softball Field underwent two significant additions that have bolstered the aesthetics and functionality of an already impressive complex. The IU Softball Complex now features a state-of-the-art scoreboard that is one of the largest in the nation. The red Daktronics scoreboard with LED message center and tri-vision advertising panels has a classic appearance that adds to the IU Softball Field's charm in a traditional setting.
In addition to the scoreboard, the IU Softball Field now features flags with logos of all of the Big Ten Conference teams set atop flagpoles that run along the outfield fence. The tree-lined outfield provides Indiana players and fans with one of the prettiest softball settings anywhere in the Midwest.
Located near Fee Lane behind the Foster Residence Center on the IU-Bloomington campus, the IU Softball Field features a gorgeous and carefully maintained brick dust base. In 2001, newly constructed dugouts were added to the facility. In 1997, one of the Big Ten's finest press boxes was constructed. From that facility, live web site updates of every IU softball game are transmitted. The field's seating capacity of around 1,000 features aluminum bleachers behind home plate. A concession stand is also available for spectator convenience. In addition, two batting cages are located behind the first base dugout.
In the spring of 1994, the softball field was upgraded, with the distances to
the outfield fences extended to l90, 220 and 190 feet. A 15-foot warning track
also was added but later removed in 1999 and replaced with grass.
